Ramblings of a Desiccated Mind

I have come to the realization that I don't know shit about what's going on in the world. Funny, because I follow the news, I try my best with my limited comprehension to put the pieces together for myself. I watch FOX on purpose to get the other side of the argument, but I simply do not have the patience or the wherewithal to grind it out in an actual debate forum. So, although it was fun to rant about my feelings on political matters, I think I'll be doing a lot less of that around here. Which means there'll be less to talk about.

I would like to see a real reform in our governmental system. The half-truths and the spin machine is completely out of control. The fact that we've ground it down to a two-party system that is all showboating, and that the entire country could be so horrifyingly polarized truly does amaze me. But now I'll be amazed in a more masturbatory fashion, and I'll save the armchair politicking for those who know so very much more than I. I just don't have the patience, and it's easier to watch the news than to form an opinion. So I'll just let the news do it for me while I wallow in my consumerist haze.

Go see Shawn of the Dead. It is fucking great, and doesn't in any way disgrace the genre with which it plays. It is a great zombie movie that just happens to have some terrific jokes and sight gags. It's right up there with An American Werewolf in London, and Return of the Living Dead as a horror/comedy crossover that respects its source material while being hysterically funny. Usually crossover films like that just fall flat, but this one's got a great energy. It's clever, sweet, and gruesome. Odd mix? Hell yeah, but easily worth the $10.50 considering most horror movies these days aren't clever or shocking, and most comedies aren't funny. This one succeeds on both levels.
