THE STAR WARS TRILOGY

In general, they look great. I haven't actually watched the movies yet (so I can't speak to sound), but I've gone through all the director's commentaries. Lucas is not as engaged as he is on the Ep.1&2 discs, and I would have liked a technical commentary track as well as a cast commentary, but overall they're pretty informative, if a bit dry. Still, Lucas knows what he's talking about. i personally have absolutely no problems with the changes made to these films with either the Spec Ed's or with this DVD release. My perspective is that he, as the creator, and as a stubborn man who did everything he could to protect his intellectual property rights from the hands of the studio system, has the right to make any additions to these films as he pleases. As the behind-the-production tales tell, he earned that right. If he wasn't happy with Ep. IV as it was released? Who are we to tell him that he cannot change it? It doesn't belong to us, it belongs to him. He fought his ass off to ensure that. And for that, he should be applauded, not condemned.
