What a morning. After futzing with my wires and digging through the reasonable wealth of knowledge I have re: the Macintosh operating system for the past month, it finally took a call to Verizon's tech support team (who're obviously outsourced workers -- fuck you Verizon) to get this old girl up and running again. More than a few stupid things on my end, but w/e. At least it's running. If only I'd realized that DSL dongle was for the TELEPHONE LINE and not the computer this might not have taken so long.
Oh well, some times it takes being retarded to learn.
Anyhow, it's great to be online again, believe it or not. I've been trying to write some and it's surprizing how dependent on internet resources I've become. Whether it be checking a spelling question or looking for some morbid fact, the internet is a great resource to have behind the word processor.
Drilling for oil in Alaskan nature reserves is one of the worst ideas in the history of bad ideas.
The very idea that the Republicans see this as the answer to our energy problems should tell you all there is to know about their agenda. Fossil fuels are not renewable, and thusly only provide a short-term solution. I am voting Democratic this year not because I don't like Bush -- although I don't like Bush (I don't believe that issues of likeablility shoud be used as a watermark of who is the right man for the job) -- but because I am tired of Science being dropped out of the debate in favor of God. God is dead, people. Deal with it. The only God we recognize now is the Mighty Greenback, and it is time to stop drawing imaginary lines in the debate over the fate of the species. Our fate is clear: we go on like we're going on and everyone will soon know the definition of hubris. I'm not worried about saving the goddamned planet, Gaia shall take care of herself. But if our species is going to have a chance then we cannot let things go on like they're going on.
If Bush were looking toward the future, and not the status-quo, I'd be on that bandwagon.
But he's not.
He's doing everything he can not to "rock the boat." Seek out the facts, not the rhetoric and then allow your conscience to guide you. Watch the convention coverage on C-SPAN so as not to be poisoned by punditry. See if these people speak to you. If they do, then you know how to cast your vote.
I have already decided.
And it's not a partisan issue, it's really not. I poke at the Republicans because I don't believe they embrace the values of this country. I think they are an agenda laden breed that is motivated by Christian faith above all else. The Democrats are crazy too, there are too many nutty, tree-hugging peacenicks that get on the liberal bandwagon. For me, the issues are free speech and the progression of scientific endeavor. My candidate will die to protect those things. I could give a fuck about Vietnam, and some angry kid slandering his fellow soldiers. He has a right to speak out against what he saw in the war, and how he believed the government was handling things over there -- a lot of which, of course, happens to be TRUE so I wish these Swiftboat for Truth guys would get the fuck over it and step up like men to admit that these things did, in fact, happen. Kerry's intent was not to slander his fellow soldiers, but, rather, to make a statement to the ruling body that they should not be allowed to use the military in a haphazard fashion.
Who can't get behind that?
Apparently about 250 angry partisans who were involved in a protracted battle that the goivernment, for years, tried to qualify as a "police action."
Double-talk, Newspeak ... it's all the same. It's the manipulation of the public's faith. And both sides are responsible for these crimes. But it's a pretty simple decision this year, as important as this election actually is.
You're either voting for a million years of human evolution or for a two thousand year old book; stem-cell research or faith healing; the atom ... or you're voting for Jesus.
When priests enter the faith they mostly change their names. You, as an ex-smooth gangsta rapper whose done the youth of America the great favor of finding God and then releasing a new record to proclaim that tidbit, should do the same otherwise you're using the shadow of your old Satan-inspired success in order to make sure that your new record is bought by your old fans. Now, wouldn't it make more sense to wash away the old, like with a baptism, and truly proclaim your love for jesus without the baggage of that old life weighing down your magnificent spirit? Oh ... but you're not going to do that because the Good News isn't quite as good when no one buys your preachy fucking record.
Go away, snake. If you really want a more fulfilling internal experience why don't you try edumacating yourself instead of just "giving it all to God". Ahh, religion ... the true opiate of the masses. Maybe I would be happier if I just absolved myself of all my past and embraced Jesus.
I like John, but not when he's a shill for an agenda he doesn't believe in.
And what about Dubya's claim today that the war against terror can never be won?
"We have always been at war with Eurasia."
Dubya wins again (and I truly fear he's got this bagged), and we're in to it neck deep, baby.
And by "it" I mean the complete dissolution of the ideas America was founded upon.
If he does win again, he's going to have no room for fucking it up ... I hope. Will the people stand up against the Bush Administration? Against each other if need be? I doubt it. -- From McCain's speech re: Saddam -- "Our choice wasn't between a benign status quo and the bloodshed of war, it was between war and a graver threat. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Not our political opponents, and certainly not a disingenuous filmmaker [cut to Michael Moore in a press box as the audience visciously boo him and chant 'four more years'] who would have us believe that Saddam's Iraq was an oasis of peace when in fact it was a place of indescribable cruelty, torture chambers, mass graves, and prisons thast destroyed the lives of the small children inside their walls."
Michael Moore actually looked a bit frightened, and the delegates looked ... well, Roman. I fear that the Dems unwillingness to throw red-meat as the Reps clearly are willing to do may have hurt them more than they know. the public is so easily lathered with a little blood in the water.
I made note of this because this looked exactly like the Two-Minutes Hate scenes out of Orwell's book.
Are these the people you want making decisions about America's future?
