headwound

Dear Mr. Clark . . .

Two words the American people do not want to hear from a candidate for the next presidential election are tax rebate.

You know, I remember when Dubya was campaigning and he was talkiing about his tax plan, and jokingly I was saying, "Yeah, like he's going to go through the surplus and write a check to every American citizen to give them their money back every year." The very notion was inconceivable to me, and, yet . . . that's exactly what he did. What's the point of collecting taxes if you're just going to send it back to us? Tighten the tax margins, fine, but sending that money back to the people is not unly unfair, it's stupid. That surplus should have been immediately invested in exploring renewable energy sources.

But nooooooooooooooooooooo!

I'll tell you what, though, scary as your title's phrasing is for a "New American Patriotism," I very much like the idea of the encourament of dissent rather than our current climate.
