"It is consistent with climate change," Vincent said, adding that the remaining ice shelves are 90 percent smaller than when they were first discovered in 1906. "We aren't able to connect all of the dots ... but unusually warm temperatures definitely played a major role."

Can the world wake the fuck up now? I think Gore's AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH should be mandatory viewing.

People think Gore has an agenda, a political agenda. He does have an agenda. It's called the survival of the species, but that doesn't add up on the bottom line, so it's better to err on the side of arrogance and just behave like the human race has made no footprint on the face of this planet.

I agree. What really scares me is how obvious this should be to everyone. But the general population keeps shrugging it off. I mean, really, what has to happen to force people to open their eyes? Whatever it is will come too late.

I fear I may live to see the end of it all. I honestly never thought I would.

Well, the opinions of the general population don't matter. We can ooh and ahh all we want, it's never going to change on that alone. This is a matter of corporate responsibility, that the polluters get their shit together instead of further investing in the economic circle jerk where they're currently involved. Your car, your smoking, your recycling is having no effect whatsoever on the planet. It's the ocean dumpage, the belching filth into the air, the ignorance of genuine emission standards instead of the placations now in place. If our species means to pull out of our responsibility for what we're doing to this planet, then the switch on the Real Big Garbage needs to have been pulled yesterday.

I've never been certain I wouldn't live to see the end of the species, now I'm pretty sure.

And yes, species, not planet -- Mother Earth will be just fine once we're gone from her face.
